Tosha Schareina takes runner-up spot at Rally-Raid Portugal 2025
The final day of Rally-Raid Portugal promised drama for Monster Energy Honda HRC’s Tosha Schareina and after losing time to rival Daniel Sanders on stage four, the Spaniard entered the last 103 km special with everything still to fight for.
Overnight storms in Lisbon left riders facing wet, windy conditions as they left the bivouac for the final time. Schareina pushed hard, but despite his best efforts he conceded another 28 seconds to Sanders on the fast sandy tracks, sealing second place by a margin of 3’40”. It was a determined ride from the reigning winner, who had been eyeing back-to-back victories until a costly navigation error on Saturday derailed his charge. Still, the runner-up finish moves him up to third place in the World Rally-Raid Championship with just one round to go.
For Ricky Brabec, mastering the technical terrain and navigating the intricate roadbook proved the toughest challenge of the week. Starting the final stage just 41 seconds behind provisional podium sitter Luciano Benavides, the American battled relentlessly but ultimately finished 1’53” adrift. He departs Portugal tied for third overall in the World Championship standings with Schareina and will head to Morocco’s desert stages with renewed determination.
Teammate Skyler Howes also endured a demanding rally, with the fast, gravel-heavy tracks testing his pace on the Honda CRF450 RALLY. He finished fifth overall and like Brabec, is eager to reset for the season finale on their favoured desert terrain.
The wait will be short: in less than two weeks the Rallye du Maroc (10–17 October) will bring the curtain down on the 2025 World Rally-Raid Championship.

Today was a short stage with just 103 km left to race. It wasn’t going to be an easy task for Tosha as he had more than three minutes to make up in time. Sometimes in rally anything can happen before the finish line, so he wanted to put up a fight but didn’t feel as confident today. However, he has done a good race this week to finish second overall.
Ricky finished fourth overall on terrain that is not his favourite, he’s more suited to desert and the dunes, but he did a good job and he knows that he needs to adapt more to these kind of rallies. Next year, the second race on the World Rally-Raid Championship calendar is Portugal so he will need to make an effort and train on this sort of ground. Skyler finished this rally in fifth, just behind Ricky and like him, it’s not his favoured type of terrain but he did a good job. Adrien had to leave the rally on the second stage which was a shame as he was on top form, but now we will focus on Morocco and we will utilise that rally to test some things as we prepare for Dakar.

It was a fight all week between me and Luciano, as the guys up front were pulling really fast. I’m happy that I got to the end of the race in one piece and looking forward to Morocco.

I’m happy to be here at the end of this great race, it’s been really fun to see all the people cheering for us right through this country, I’m really thankful for the opportunity to be here so. I’m happy to be here in good health, today was really fun, with rain it’s always a little bit sketchy but the courses were really good, the road books were awesome so I’m happy. A big thank you to all my team for all their hard work, they put in so much work for us to be here and race. Now we look forward to the last round in Morocco and then it’s back to full gas training for the Dakar.

We knew from the beginning that today would be difficult to take the win. We started three minutes behind in the overall and with just 100 km to race it was really difficult on the fast, sandy tracks and I tried as hard as I could and came away with second overall. I’m happy for the team, they did a really good job and now I'll focus on the next race in Morocco.
