The fight for the podium lit up today’s penultimate stage of the 2025 Rally-Raid Portugal, with overall leader Tosha Schareina under pressure from Daniel Sanders and Ricky Brabec pushing hard to close in on Luciano Benavides for third.

For Schareina, the challenge was twofold: opening the road on the 274 km special as the rally re-entered Portugal, while trying to hold off a charging Sanders.  The Spaniard initially lost nearly a minute on the slippery, technical tracks, struggling to find rhythm as the lead rider.  He clawed back time mid-stage, but a costly navigation mistake late on saw him surrender valuable minutes. Crossing the line 4’54” down, Schareina not only lost the stage but also the overall lead.  With more than three minutes now separating him from the top spot, he faces a monumental task in tomorrow’s showdown.

The hilly, tree-lined tracks leading back into Portugal offered Ricky Brabec a valuable chance to reduce the gap to Benavides. Though he battled with the setup of his Honda CRF450 RALLY and continued to feel the effects of a finger injury sustained yesterday, the American pushed through with determination.  In the end, he lost some time but crucially limited the deficit to just 41 seconds, keeping the fight for the final podium place very much alive.

Skyler Howes delivered a clean, composed ride, avoiding errors on the wet and windy run into Lisbon.  He finished the stage in fifth, 6’15” off the lead and solidified his fifth place in the overall standings.

With only one stage left, the rally’s finale promises fireworks as a 287 km route awaits, including a decisive 103 km timed loop from Lisbon.  For the first time, the Portuguese capital will host the finish line and the Monster Energy Honda HRC riders will be throwing everything into the fight to swing the rally back their way.

Tosha was riding really well until 253 km then he made a mistake and took the wrong piste. At the last waypoint he was 50 seconds behind Daniel Sanders, but with this mistake he lost quite important time. It was a shame as he’d done a really good job up to that point and tomorrow he will start with a 3’12” gap between him and Daniel. Of course the race continues into the last day and anything can happen. Ricky finished fourth and although it was quite technical at the beginning, which was a little bit tough for him and Skyler on this sort of terrain, fourth and fifth position finishes were good for them. Tomorrow, there will be 103 km against the clock on fast, sandy pistes, so we will see what happens.

Made it to Lisbon, one more day to go, so really looking forward to this. Today, wasn’t our greatest result, we did the best we could but struggled a lot with set up, so it is what it is and we did our best. The championship’s tight, obviously not for the top spot, but for the second and third, me and Luciano are tied for that and also for the podium spot here in Portugal. This terrain’s not that easy, it’s fun, but for me it’s a little bit difficult, there’s so many corners going on and a lot in the road book. I’m looking forward to the final stage and I’m happy today, I finished and didn’t hit the ground. The finger’s a little bit sore from yesterday’s crash too. One day to go and we’re looking forward to it.

Stage four was a challenging day, we repeated a lot of tracks and so they were really destroyed, a lot of fesh fesh out there and quite silty. We went around a lake in the beginning and it was really slippery and technical, there were a lot of turns and I just took it a little too easy around there and the rest of the stage I needed to pick it up and so I pushed as much as I could through all that. Overall I rode well and didn’t make any major mistakes so I think that’s a positive note for today. I just need to get through this last stage tomorrow but now we’re getting rained on so that’s how a rally goes, throws everything at you and you got to keep rolling with it and get on through.

Stage: 2nd Overall: 2nd

Everything was going really well with our plans that we’d made, trying to not lose too much time to Daniel because we were opening the stage and to try to start second tomorrow and attack again. Everything was going well until 20 km from the end, one note was not clear and I was confused and ended up riding in circles. I lost like 4 minutes and it was so frustrating, especially as it was just 20 kms from the finish. This is part of the game, we have to check now with the organisation what happened in that note and then I will try to clear my mind and attack again tomorrow.
