Monster Energy Honda Team riders Joan Barreda and Pablo Quintanilla are set to participate in the second edition of the Andalucía Rally which gets underway this week.
While Ricky Brabec and José Ignacio Cornejo get to grips with the Sonora Rally, the other 50% of the team will be in Spain to compete in another captivating competition. The small town of Villamartín and its surroundings will play host to the second edition of the Andalucía Rally, taking place from May 11-15. The Monster Energy Honda Team will line up two of their factory riders, Joan Barreda and Pablo Quintanilla. This will be the first chance for the newly signed Chilean rider to put the Honda CRF450 RALLY through its paces, in what should be a great opportunity for the newcomer to bond with the bike.

The engines of the Andalucía Rally will roar into action on the 12th with the curtain-raising prologue: an eight-kilometre Super Special. Prior to that, participants must first make it through the administrative and technical checks as well as the mandatory Covid-19 test. There will be just four stages on a total 1,100-kilometre trek through the provinces of Cádiz and Seville.

After the Dakar victory, these are the first races in which we will be competing: we have divided the team into two: two riders will go to Sonora and two to the south of Spain, near Seville. We are participating in this race for several reasons: firstly, because the organizing body (ASO and David Castera) is the same one that will be organizing the Dakar 2022, which will hold its official presentation during the race; likewise, because it is an interesting race to train using the same system and, also, as we have Pablo Quintanilla as a new team rider. It was all very sudden, but we think it will be a great opportunity for him to adapt to his new bike and the team. It is also important to be able to race during the year, to continue preparing for the Dakar 2022 and it is good to be able to continue competing. The team is practically unchanged and we will follow the same model that we did in the Dakar 2021, which we won.
